9/2/05 Update on Maggie
Friends,
Maggie was significantly worse this morning and there was no rest for us last night. My good friend Shelby felt in her gut that we needed to see a particular doctor for Maggie, so she called and got us an appointment at 11:30 this morning. The doctor took one look at Maggie and began running the same tests from yesterday. She also called the lab and demanded to have the test results faxed to her. None of this "waiting until Tuesday" bit, she said! Maggie's lymphocytes and white blood cell counts were very elevated even between yesterday and today. Her lymph glands behind her ears, on the back of her neck and under her arms are highly swollen as well. She immediately decided we'd be puttting Maggie on steroids to combat the swelling and allow her to eat something which she hasn't been able to do for two days. I expressed concern over waiting until Tuesday to discover if this was Leukemia or Lymphoma and she immediately went to the phone and ordered those test results faxed to her as well. Maggie has no signs of Leukemia or Lymphoma and does not appear to have Hepatitis either! Thanks be to God! The doctor said that her gut was telling her that she does in fact have Epstein Barr virus which has turned itself into Infectious Mononucleosis. This is fairly serious in a 3 year old and will take quite awhile for Maggie to recover from, but she will recover. We consider Shelby's "gut feeling" and this doctor's aggressive approach to be nothing less than the hand of God.
Thank you thank you thank you for your prayers and for dividing prayers between Maggie and Rick for these 24 hours! How comforting to know that God handles all of our pleas with ease. Candi will continue to keep us all posted on Rick's condition as we have a very sick little girl to care for.
We stand united with you all as we pray for God to perform a miracle in Rick's life and wait expectantly for how He will next show us how huge He is. Love and thanks to you all...you are our much extended family.

"Peace I leave you with; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." ~John 14:27
"I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." ~2 Corinthians 12:8-10
Shannon and Jeff,
Praise be to our Father that He has Maggie in His hands and close to His heart, He has your whole family there. Thank you for your amazing ministry through this site, I will continue to be in prayer for your family. Know that you are loved and NOTHING is out of God's control. I will stand in the gap for your family as well.
Love Always,
Michele

Jeff and Shannon,
I got the all staff email from Colette and immediately prayed for Maggie. I'm so glad you did not have to wait until Tuesday to get any results. You are all in our prayers and of course Maggie. God is good to have given Shelby that "gut" feeling. I'm so happy she listened and did not dismiss it or second guess her feelings. You will continue to be in our prayers. Give Maggie a bug hug from the Stubbs family!!

I believe in gut feelings - it is the Holy Spirit working in us which causes us to take action. I am so glad that Maggie saw this Doctor today. It sounds like God was present in this situation, but who would have doubted it would be any other way. Hold Maggie and give her all your precious love as God has given us. God loves the little children and He protects them. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is surrounded by God's love and you can see it at work. We experienced it last April. Miracles were everywhere.
Thank you for keeping us in touch with Rick through the postings and updates. You have been so wonderful and I am asking for blessings to be abundant for you and your family. Cannot wait to see a picture of Maggie, you will have to post one for us.
Love,
Elaine

Jeffrey and Shannon,
You don't know me (I grew up living beside Candi, Ricky, and Haley), however, I feel like you are a part of my life just as their family has always been. Shannon, from one mother to another, my prayers and heart goes out to you. We are praying for 100% recovery for your sweet angel. We serve a MIGHTY GOD and that precious baby (as well as Ricky) are right in His hands. Those two are going to have a testimony like none other to share with the world.
God bless you both,
Jennifer Lehmann

Thank you for the update
We will continue to pray from your family as well as Rick and his family.
What an awesome Father we have to love and serve.
We love you,
Gerry
PS. Give Maggie a big hug and kiss and let her know her heavenly Father and extended family love her very much.

Jeffery and Shannon, You have truly been an instrument of God's peace for the rest of us during this time of uncertainty. There are no words this side of heaven to let you know how much it has meant to me to have the updates on Rick, and now your precious daughter. I continue to pray and trust in the Lord. You are surrounded by love and lifted in prayer as you also wait on the Lord. What an awesome God we serve! Your sister in Christ, Teri

Hey! God Blesd you all! I will continue praying for Maggie!

Thank the Lord. How many times do we say that? Even though it is said so many times without full regard to His awesomeness. It still can not be said enough. Thank the Lord!
My family learned of Maggie's condition last night and it truly seemed surreal. Can this really be going on? God still reigns and He still declares Himself. I am so greatful for learning that Maggie's condition is "controlable" and we will continue to pray for her complete healing.
Thank you all for keeping us updated on Rick and Maggie and allowing us the privalege of standing with each of you in prayer.

To Jeffrey and Shannon-Praise the Lord!!!
I will continue to pray for your precious little Maggie and her complete recovery. She is in good hands-both yours and our Father’s. She will be fine! I enjoyed meeting you both last week in the McDonald’s parking lot.You were so gracious to give us a moment of your time and to play
Rick’s CD for us. Thank you for your faithfulness to Rick, this family, and all who love him. We will miss you, but you are definitely where you need to be at this time. Hold on to Maggie tight and enjoy every moment…they grow up so fast. My prayers will be with you daily.
To Rick’s mom-I was driving through town(Cumming) a bit ago. I saw school busses filled with football players and the band. There were cars everywhere with local high school banners flying from their windows. The restaurants were packed and teens filled the parking lots. You could feel the excitement in the air for the upcoming game. I thought to myself, “I love living in this town!” I suddenly became nostalgic and a bit sad remembering when my boys were in high school and played for the local team. Then my thoughts suddenly switched to you and how you must be feeling. So while at the red light I closed my eyes and said a quick prayer for you. You can probably guess what happened next. The cars behind me began honking! A little flustered I proceeded around the curve and was amazed to see the words “Keep Rick in your prayers” posted on a sign at a local restaurant. I promise I almost stopped driving right there in the middle of the road…I just wanted to stare at it. An overwhelming feeling of love washed over me and I thought to myself again, “I love living in this town!” Then I proceeded to cry all the way home. So many people are praying for Rick and all of you there by his side. I pray that you are able to feel these prayers and that they bring you some sort of comfort. God Bless you all! You are loved! Praise the Lord! I am so happy that you got in with that doctor today, and were able to recieve a diagnosis today as well. As a mommy of two I cannot imagine how hard that waiting until Tues would have been thankfully now you know and she can be treated. Thank you for letting us know what is going on with the sweet angel. Thank you for allowing us into your family, we will continue to pray for Miss Maggie.

Shannon and Jeffery,
We don't know you, except for the self-lessness you have shown through Rick's struggles. We pray for your little Maggie to bounce back to full health! The possibility of Maggie being diagnosed with leukemia was almost overwhelming for us right now.
Rick, Suzanne, and Family,
We continue to have you on our hearts every step of the way, 'checking in' regularly. God is so much more capable than we can even comprehend.
Remember, God Loves Rick and Maggie and each of us more than any one else!
Much Love, Judy and Butch

We have thought and prayed for you all day as you came to our minds. Our world right now seems so out of control - with the wars going on inside the bodies of our precious friends and the wake of Katrina leaving such devastation of the homes to our south. We are so thankful that even in such times of feeling 'out of control' that God is never out of control. We praise Him that He is sovreign and sure! I am thankful for feeling His peace and trusting in Him when all seems so desparate.
Thanks be to God for this wonderful news concerning Maggie and Rick. We will continue to pray for dear Maggie as she is recovering.
Many thanks to Shelby for heeding the prompting of the Holy Spirit and making that call.
We love you so much and consider it an honor to call you friend.
We will be praying for you - each hour that passes.

Praise be to God about little Maggie. Although she isn't feeling well, her news is wonderful. I am so overwhelmed by all the people that are keeping up with Rick and Maggie. I know God must be pleased with all of His people united in prayer. Shannon and Jeffrey - thank you again for allowing us to be informed of Rick's progress. And Candi and Jonathan, thank you for also keeping us posted. All of you are loved more than you could ever know. Our prayers will go on and on and on...

Frank and I have prayed for you and your sweet girl for the last day and are so grateful to God for the guidance you received from your friend and the clear answers you received from her doctor. I know you must be breathing a sigh of relief. We will continue to pray that she gains her strength and wellness with each passing day.

Jeffrey & Shannon,
Thank you Lord Jesus!! I, too, was almost overwhelmed when I first read about Maggie. I am so thankful that God in His grace and mercy allowed you to get good news today---waiting can be the worst part when it's your child! I pray that she will have a good night tonight, and that your sleep will be sweet. We will continue to pray for her healing, and for strength for you as you care for her. I'm encouraged and deeply touched each day as I read the updates and comments on this site---God is using it to minister to all of us!!!

Dear Suzan,
I just remembered that I need to encourage you too. You've shown what it means to be committed even though you weren't married to this young man. I believe the Lord has a husband waiting in the wings for you who will be a blessing to you and reward you for your faithfulness to Rick during this time. Amen, or so be it.
