8/30/05 Update

Friends,

Today is a new day! Each day is a gift. The neurologists are encouraged by the fact that every day, Rick seems to show a tiny bit of improvement. He has begun to open his eyes now. He still does not focus on anything or look anyone in the eye, but the fact that they are open is great! He will have a procedure done today to remove the tube from down his throat. He will continue to remain on a ventilator to assist him with breathing, but it will go straight into his neck instead of down his throat. The hope is that without the tube, Rick will be able to recover the ability to swallow, which he had stopped doing for awhile. Unfortunately, the Bilirubin has climbed to 29. We need those numbers DOWN! We are continuing to pray for miraculous neurological improvement over the coming days. The Great Physician has sustained Rick for another day for which we are grateful. Our prayer is that He continues to mend the body that though very mysterious to all of us, doctors included, is NO mystery to Him! We look forward to watching Him work...

Good morning Rick! I was sitting here thinking about you and your family and friends this morning. I was thinking about how you will feel when you wake up and are able to read this site. It seems you have been exposed to people from all over the world. We have learned so much about you through this site. Probably more than you ever thought we all would know. There is more to you than those good looks and that amazing voice. We have learned that your mother is a beloved teacher. She is a woman of deep faith. She has raised godly children that share their testimony through their music. We have learned that you have two older sisters who are equally as talented and who love you very much. We have learned that you have ever faithful friends in Shannon and Jeffrey. They have been your voice to us through these days and weeks. We are ever grateful to them for their dedication to you and to us. We have learned that you love little children and have never thought so much of yourself that you didn’t take the time to chase them around the church and growl at them. We have learned that you have been touching lives through your song since you were small and known as Ricky. We have learned that you are an athlete, played baseball in high school, and that even then your coaches knew you were special. We have learned that you attend youth conventions and camps during the summer and spread God’s word far beyond the community of Mountain Lake. Those of us who are blessed to attend Mountain Lake have learned to worship with all of our hearts and souls as you do. We have learned that you record your beautiful music…but we need to learn how we can purchase copies for ourselves…hint, hint. We have learned that you had high standards in choosing a bride, that Suzanne is a Godly and faithful woman and just as beautiful as you, inside and out. We have learned that your co-workers are desperate to have you back in the office with them. They love you, hurt for you, miss you and pray for you constantly. They look forward to the day when you return to work and pizza is on the menu for lunch. We have learned that even a 23 year old man can make a difference in the lives of people from all over the world. We have learned hope for our own lives and our impact on the world. We have learned to pray, have faith, believe in miracles, and to give God all the glory. Rick needs a miracle and…I believe!

Rick, Suzanne, and Family,

Our hearts and prayers are still with you. God is bigger than all of this even though we don't understand it. Trust is much harder in the midst of pain, but it is HUGE for our peace of mind.

I'm looking forward to see what God has in store for all of us this week!! I just want to let you guys know that God is touching so many people's lives through this situation with Rick! I went yesterday and donated platelets! It looks like God has blessed me with lots of them, they said more than the average person, so I was able to donate 2 bags to him! I just want to tell you guys that these people at this clinic are absolutely amazing! God is showing all of them so much. They are so concerned for Rick, and praying for Rick everyday. They said that the volume there has just gone crazy since he's been sick. I'm so glad we can help in this way. I'm going to go back in a couple of weeks to donate again. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced. I am grateful God has let me help out in this way! Rick, I'm praying continually every single day for you! I just pray that God will continue to mend your brain, and that you will start gaining everything back! I also am constantly praying that those numbers in your liver will just start going down!! Candi, and family: I am thinking of all of you with every moment. I pray that God will just be with you all and sustain you through this time! Candi, I just want you to know that I am so amazed by your strength and faith. I read the letter you posted on here a while back, and it just touched my heart so much. You are one of the most incredible people I know. I have learned so much from you, Jonathan, and Rick. I am blessed to know each one of you! I'm thinking of all of you so much. Thank you again for allowing me to do something to help Rick! It was an experience that I will never forget. I encourage anyone that can please go down there and donate!!! You are helping not only Rick, but possibly other people who are really sick. I am amazed to see how God is reaching out to all of the staff down there through this situation!! He is a MIGHTY BIG GOD!! I'm just so grateful God gave me the opportunity to be a part of that. What an amazing thing!! God bless all of you!! Shannon-Thanks again for all that you're doing, and the contact information to go be a part of donating. I can't thank you enough!!

God Bless-

Ricky, we prayed for you again at Byrneville United Methodist Church Sunday, especially in the youth Sunday School class. I am so glad that you are opening your eyes and will pray specifically today that your brain and body will continue being healed in the name of Jesus Christ, and that the wisdom sought by the doctors who are treating you will be influenced by God, our Creator, who knows just what you need!!

Rick,

Good Morning, It is a glorious morning. God has blessed us with another day to show glory to him. I just wanted to share with you what a special place you have in the hearts of our family. We had been disconnected for a long time prior to coming to MLC. I had bribed my husband to trying different churches together - each ending in a big NO; but then we came to MLC. We took our children to the kids ministry area and found our way to the back of the adult worship auditorium. The band began... David was mesmerized. I couldn't believe it, what a blessing! Shawn spoke- we listened- again.. what a blessing! The gift you have is so great, your ability to draw us near is amazing. We now sit up at the front, completely connected and waiting for praise and worship and striving to become and belong each and every day more and more. I truly believe God used you as a tool to reach us and many other. We miss you there leading praise, sharing funny comments and just being Rick. We pray for you and give thanks to God for you. Thank you for playing such an amazing part in all of our growth in the Body of Christ.

Rick,
God is using your testimony and circumstances and recieving everlasting glory from them. We may not know until we stand before Christ in glory the full impact your life is having. I know many people including myself who are learning the true meaning of "pray without ceasing". You and your family are in my thoughts, almost to the point of constant distraction, as the Holy Spirit ministers to my spirit because I do not know how to pray and He provides groanings that I know our Father understands.
I cannot wait until we stand togather again and speak of life, love and the amazing mercy and grace of our God. I love you

Talk to you soon,

Bill

Rick and Suzanne,
I am praising God everyday that the news is good. I will be praying that those bilirubins go down and that he will respond today. I told my mother last night that I cannot wait to be at the first service that Rick is back at MLC and I really cannot wait to be at that beautiful wedding that will be the most incredible one that anyone has ever been to. God is doing and is going to do great things. He is working through both of you. You inspire us with your strength and Faith. I cannot wait until we are all serving together again. I love both of you so much.

I must take a moment fo your time to tell you the impact you have on all of our lives. As you know, I come from a large family. Hi Rick and Family:

I find myself checking for updates early every day. Thank God for His faithfullness to His Word and His promises.

Rick, I was reminded of Elijah this morning when I prayed for you. As a refresher I got my Bible and turned to I Kings 17 - II Kings 2. Man, oh Man, what a man of God Elijah was. He touched so many lives then AND now.

As hard as it might have been for him to do in the face of so many obstacles, he responded to God's instructions, girded himself with his faith, and prophesied of a drought that would devestate the nation. This drought could be ended ONLY when Elijah spoke that it would end and that would be when God moved upon him to end it.

Elijah was anointed to serve as a prophet of the real God, not Baal. He had many people and things working against him (Jezebel and all the prophets of Baal) as well as the full army of Ahab. (He thought he was alone). Wow! What a discouragement that could be. He served God faithfully and did as God told him to do. He moved when God said to move. He spoke when God said to speak. He infiltrated the army to get to Ahab when God said to go speak to Ahab and prophesy. Easy? I don't think so. But he was faithful to God and he did it.

Then it came time for God to prove himself to the entire nation as the Only true God. He used Elijah to do it. Elijah challenged Baal's prophets to call fire down from heaven and burn the sacrificial offering of a bull. They tried all day long -- crying, begging, prophesying everything they knew that might persuade their god to move for them, even to the point of beating themselves until blood trickled from their bodies -- but their idol god could not bring fire down and consume their sacrifice.

THEN, Elijah who knew beyond doubt that he was serving the one and only "God" of the universe, called upon God to consume with FIRE the sacrificial bull that was surrounded by water.

I Kings 18:36 - 46 "At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: 'O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.' Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, 'The Lord--he is God! The Lord--He is God!'

Before this event concluded, Elijah knew the time had come for the drought to end. The people had acknowledged that there was NO POWER but from the only true God. He is the God to worship, not the idol gods. Now was the time.

But even after the magnificent display of God's power in the fire that consumed the sacrifice, a waiting time came. Elijah went up to the top of Mt Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees and waited. Waited for God to bring rain to end the drought.

Guess what? After all his obedience in the face of his enemies, all his efforts to be what God wanted him to be, and to do what God wanted him to do, Elijah STILL HAD TO WAIT FOR GOD to move for the people of Israel. He sent his servant out to look at the sky for a sign of rain SEVEN (7) times, before the servant saw a cloud THE SIZE OF A MAN'S HAND rising from the sea.

Not much, to go on-- but it was something, right? You had better believe it was something! It was enough!

Based on the fact that a "small" cloud was seen in the sky, Elijah sent his servant to tell Ahab to hitch up his chariot and get back to the city before the rains came down too hard and heavy to stop him! The sky grew dark and the rains came and the drought was ended.

AND, the people were back to worshiping the One, true God! The only God with the power to bring fire down from heaven.

Rick, all this was written to say this: You, (as a servant of God, whose desire is to be what God wants you to be, and to serve God as He wants you to serve Him, and to be a testimony of God's love, grace and power as every Christian should be) have family members and church family members who are beginning to see the cloud the size of a man's hand rising from the sea. The sky may yet get dark and the winds may rise high and blow hard against you, but the rain of God's deliverance from oppression is beginning to flow again.

Don't lose hope, or begin to feel sorry for yourself, or alone as Elijah did when he fled to the wilderness. Know for a certainty that HE is still moving for you and still using you (even as you lie in the hospital bed) as His witness to the masses of people.

AND, what an army of prayer warriors you have on your behalf. I am so in awe of how God as touched so many people to visit this website and respond to a cry for help. Just as Elijah had an army of 9,000 that God had reseved who would fight with him, you, too, have an army of people who are steadfastly standing with you in faith with their eyes peeled to the sky waiting for that small cloud the size of a man's hand to enlarge itself to become a full blown rain storm with God's healing in the midst.

I will end this "book" with this: I am praying with the masses and waiting with them for God's power to bring complete healing to your body. You are a testimony to who God is...God is love. You, young man are loved.

Keep opening those eyes and before long you will be sipping on a cup of coffee (Starbucks of course) readings all these messages and feeling all the love that has poured out to you.

I read in "Experiencing God Day-By-Day" a paragraph that really says alot -"Optimists do not ignore the difficulties, they are keenly aware of them. But the knowledge of God's presence prevents them from becoming discouraged or giving up. It is impossible to stand in the presence of God and be a pessimist." Amen to that!

Rick and Family,
Chris and I are continuing to pray for you. You and your family know this verse as well as anyone. Bro. Don uses this each Sunday before Faith Prayer.
James 5: 13-16. Is anyone of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is anyone of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. -NIV
We are consistently praying for your healing and for a peace that passes understanding within your family. I believe God will honor our prayers. He is a faithful God.

On my prayer list for you today: low bilirubin, perfect neurological response, good swallowing, no leukemia, and TOTAL HEALING!!!

The battle continues and I will continue to fight it!!! To your family and Suzanne: I pray that all of you can feel all the love that is coming your way from the body of Christ. We stand with you.

Blessings again to Shannon and Jeffrey for your continued updates.

Great news today. When i pray for you i also pray for my daughter who is 19, i pray that God guides her to our church, i know if i could just get her there, she would love it. Today i went to the blood center, my platelet count was too low to be able to donate, all i could give you was red cells. My daughter was with me and had previously said she was too scared to donate, when she saw the look on my face when i was told i couldn't help, she jumped up and said "I want to do it". She was able to donate 2 bags of platelets for you. She then said she wants to be there when you walk thru the doors of MLC again. She told me tonight that when she saw me pray while she was hooked up to the machines, she told God "whatever my mom is praying for goes double for me" (this the same child who earlier in the week told me there is no God). The lord is using you to reach my child, God is an amazing artist and you are his medium for this tremendous masterpiece.
We love you Rick, we are praying for you with no doubts, only love and faith.

For people thinking about donating platelets, theres nothing to it. 2 hours, you are in a very comfortable recliner, nice warm blankets, movie of your choice on a dvd, or a peaceful time to pray, the people couldn't be nicer, we played cards with the nurses. Not to mention the feeling of joy of helping re-build Rick's body.

I am so glad to hear that there is improvement. You are in my prayers and I hope those numbers go down. I wish you God's healing touch and His everlasting mercy on both of you and your families. I will continue to pray. I will say a prayer tomorrow with my pastor tomorrow also. GOD BLESS YOU.

We all will never know the impact Rick's life in good health and not so good health has impacted others. Our family read about the mother whose daughter donated blood because she couldn't - only God knows the whole reason and story to this whole situation. Rick you remind our family of Jesus how he sacrificed his life for all of us. You are sacrificing parts of your life and others are being brought back to Christ and some are being brought to Christ for the first time. There must be some awesome plans for you and Suzanne to accomplish!

We are standing and believing and not fading in our faith for your healing.

God bless all of Rick's family today and everyday.

Praise be to God for the good news! I am so encouraged as I view this website daily. You have so many people praying for you. I am touched by the posts; God is working in the lives of so many as we come together in prayer for you. Thank you Shannon for your updates. Your words are an instrument used by God. I will continue to pray and ask all those I know to join with me.

Every time our family prays -- meals, bedtime, Monday night's tornado warning -- Jagger reminds us: "And let's pray for Ricky." And we do! We thank God for each improvement and for each day of life for Rick. We are in this battle together, even our little ones! What a wonderful legacy for them to learn at an early age to petition our Father on behalf of our brothers and sisters! Praise God for all He does! We eagerly await more of His glory in Rick's life today!

Lord, bless Rick today, whose daily living is a gift to You. Who walks in faith and trusts in you with a whole and grateful heart. Bless this one who gives without counting the cost, and whose life is an example of Your presence among us. Bestow upon this loving servant and his family every gift of Your grace and the abundant blessings of Your favor. You know Rick's needs and in Your infinite wisdom, love and mercy we trust You to meet each one. Continue to grow us in faith and character as You continue to work in and through this precious man and his family. In Your Word, Simon from Cyrene helped You to carry Your cross, I thank you that you have allowed us to come next to Rick and his family and help carry this cross as well, through prayer. Hear our prayer now for complete healing of Rick, mind and body, now Lord, today. In Your precious Name I pray. . . Amen

Rick,
Each day we continue to pray for you. At our church our children's choirs do a program called Hymn Treasures where each month they learn an old hymn. Rebekah's hymn for this month is Great Is Thy Faithfulness. John and William are both singing it this morning and I stopped and listened to the words and wanted to share them. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not, They compassions they fail not, As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see, All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. When you get well we will have a concert of old hymns. We love you!

Dear Rick and Family-Having walked with my husband through cancer, I just want you to know that God is so good and His grace is sufficient moment by moment! As we went through cancer last year a friend reminded me as I was trying to figure out what would happen next and the future that..God gives grace for the moment not for the future because we aren't there yet! Receive that grace each moment today and feel His healing Presence surround you all as you trust Him for the miraculous. He is surely in that business-we need to keep asking!! Standing with you all! I've never met any of you, however I was at mountain lake a few weeks ago and was touch when I heard the story. There are so few strong powerful voices for the lord not to mention such a young man, I pray that the lord, in all his great power and mercy would heal rick to the healthy man he was, so that all the days of rick's life he may be a testimony and glory God's awesome power everyday, to everyone who's heart is open to hear the word of God. I will await, be still.
Look forward to seeing rick sing when I come back in October (6-8).
praise the lord always!!!
