8/26/05 Update
Friends,
There is no new information to report...yesterday's post still encompasses the prayer request needs. Please read that if you haven't done so. A point of clarification: Northside Hospital's Platelet Donation Bank is different from any other hospital in the area. Any platelets not used for Rick will not be thrown away, they will be used for other patients in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. They have asked us to donate specifically in Rick's name, so please do that. Here is the donation information again:
To donate platelets:
You must call, FIRST. Do not go down to the hospital until you've called.
Call Sonya Ness at (404) 459-8744 and tell her that you are interested in donating platelets to Rick Pearson. Sonya will conduct a screening interview and if you pass, you will be given an appointment time. Platelets only live for 3-5 days, so everyone cannot go at once. It could take up to 2 hours to donate, so consider this as you are making arrangements with Sonya. You will sit in a recliner and be hooked up to a machine that will draw your blood, spin it and remove the platelets, and then insert your blood back in, minus the platelets. Platelets are universal, so blood type is not an issue. It takes 6 people donating to make 1 bag of platelets, and Rick is going through several bags a day. So...we can never have too many platelets! Depending on who you are and health, a person can donate every 72 hours, so donating more than once is a possibility as well.
So many of you have asked what you can do and now here's something that will directly benefit Rick! We've warned Sonya to expect some SERIOUS call volume on Rick's behalf, so let's light it up!
Your prayers are vital,
Shannon

Rick, Suzanne, and family,
When we wake up, and when we go to sleep, when my daughter and I are out running errands, and when we are at home, we pray. While listening to one of my daughter's favorite CD's in the car today, this wonderful yet simple reminder struck a chord with me as Ansley danced in the back seat:
"My God is so BIG, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do. My God is so GREAT, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God cannot do, for you!"
We know there's nothing He can't do, and we continue to pray for our mighty God to heal you completely!
Love,
John, Megan and Ansley Greiner

I remember my first visit to MLC. I was amazed at the way that Rick communicated with the congregation through his music. He was alive with the spirit and his faith and commitment to God was evident. His ability to connect with people and to share his faith is nothing short of awesome. I have made MLC my home partly because I love watching Rick lead us in praise. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers at all times and I pray that God will heal Rick and that we will all rejoice at his homecoming at MLC. We love him and we miss him. God bless all that are taking the time to be with Rick and his family in their time of need, Keep them strong and safe.

We know that God is in complete control. I keep thinking about the Fine Arts trip to Kansas City, Missouri when Rick would make that noise with his mouth that sounded like someone was about to run into the back of the bus. He scared us to death. I also think about when he won the national title for individual songwriting and how he made us so proud! We love Rick and want him back 100%. We know that God can do it!

These verses convicted me to Christ and I do so pray that you find comfort in them.
3 All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel!
2Co 1:4 He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.
2Co 1:5 We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort--we get a full measure of that, too.
2Co 1:6 When we suffer for Jesus, it works out for your healing and salvation. If we are treated well, given a helping hand and encouraging word, that also works to your benefit, spurring you on, face forward, unflinching. Your hard times are also our hard times.
2Co 1:7 When we see that you're just as willing to endure the hard times as to enjoy the good times, we know you're going to make it, no doubt about it.

God always says it best. I do not know what the future holds for Rick's earthly vessel. I do know that God holds Rick. God holds you. We as a body do hurt and want so deparately to see Rick rise up off that bed and be among us again. Please know that we all love you and will do anything we can to help.

I'm a friend of Suzanne and her family in Daphne, Al. and my heart is so burdened for Rick.
I have been praying day and night for him, and I agree in faith, Shannon, with the beautiful and powerful prayers that yall have been praying.
"There is a balm in Gilead...it is the Word of God. And there is a great physician there...His name is Jehovah-Rapha." Let's remember when our hearts get so fearful and burdened... to praise God for who He is, and continue to praise and to praise Him some more until He speaks in the quietness and stillness, (He inhabits the praises of His people)giving knowledge, wisdom, faith, and power. Remember, too, that as you have prayed with all your heart, with all that's within you, that the 'Holy Spirit, Himself, is interceding for Rick with groanings which cannot be uttered.' (Romans 8:26-27) 'Groanings' means 'divine intensity.' "Jesus ever lives to make intercession for us" (Hebrews 7:25) I believe that Jehovah-God, the Lord of Hosts, and all his angels are hovering over that hospital room and covering Rick and that the glory of the Lord is filling that room. What precious friends he has in Atlanta to stand in the gap for him. Suzanne, I love you, honey. May the Lord be with you and keep you strong. Love, Mrs. Mary Redfearn

Won't it be so cool one day in heaven when Jesus explains to some of us that the reason he let Rick's brain be quiet during this time was so Rick wouldn't have to suffer and be anxious while some of this healing was taking place?

Rick, I contacted Candi about a year ago by letter and let her know about the wonderful things God had done in my life and how he had changed me from a sinner into a Holy Spirit filled Christian. Latasha told me about your situation and I am truly sorry this is happening, but God has a purpose in all things. Perhaps one way God is going to use this is that you get to be a witness to all those on the hospital staff of the peace and joy of God during the storms of life and you can touch their lives by displaying your faith in Him. Latasha sends greetings and prayers, as do I. She is concerned about you and your family and yet confident in God. We attend First Pentecostal Church of Pensacola and will have the church pray for your recovery. I also have some friends that God has called to preach His amazing Gospel and I will have them pray for you also. The Bible tells us that "...these signs shall follow them that believe." May God Bless you and keep you and your family. Casun and Latasha Carraway

I don't have words to express how helpless I feel about what you are going through. (Even though I feel helpless, I know God is strong.) Rick you have always been strong both physically and spiritually. I know that you and your family have been faithful and true to God's word. Hey Rick,
I know you don't know me, but my youth group has been going to Big Stuf for the past 3 years now, and we really missed you this year. We heard from Danny that you had hepatitis or something like that, just that you were really sick. Then my sister called me at my dorm yesterday to tell me what your current situation is, and I couldn't have been more shocked. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and I know you couldn't be more blessed than by being able to have all of these people praying for you right now (all the youth and adults in the summer sessions, their families and churches, and then all their friends and coworkers. . . ). I just wanted to tell you that I will be praying for you and your family, and will lift you up in church and in my religion classes. "Our hope depends not on the right technique or the proper gesture, which borders on magic, but on the promises of God to look with favor on those who throw themselves on his mercy." -Donald Bloesch

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Eph 6: 12-17

Since the day when I first learned of this situation, I have prayed almost continually. I have also kept the Christian radio stations on, as I just felt that drew me nearer to God. Today, I kept hearing the new song by Casting Crown: "Let my life song sing to You." My thoughts went immediately to Rick.
10 days in ICU, 23 years, Rick, your life song sings a beautiful song to our Heavenly Father." Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Ricky,
Words cannot express how my heart ached when I found out the news of your situation. I have been in constant prayer for you and your wonderful family. Along time ago, you made an impact on me that has been with me since the day I met you. A driving spirit both in your actions and on the field of play. You witnessed to me by the way you handled yourself on the football field and the baseball field. You showed me that no matter what the circumstances that faced you, look to the cross. Lay it at His feet in the blood stains and all hurt and pain would fade away. I remember your smiling face walking down the hall and I can still see you taking battin gpractice and fussing at me because I did not throw the pitches where you thought they should be. I sat next to you while you cried after your last baseball game and marveled at the times where your never quit spirit rang through the dugout. I proudly display the baseball that you and your teammates gave to me when I left and I remember your war cry from the dugout. "Blue Phi" you would always yell and it became our motto throughout a very successful season. First ever district champs!!! You were there and an intrical part of the success. Now a different time has come in your life. Baseball does not matter but the things that you taught me and the things that I instilled in you ring more powerful today than at any other time in your life. We spend quality time Gods word. Each time the Fellowship of christian athletes met. You and your sister. Wow, what a team. I can still see you dancing to Dive. I can even do some of the movements. I bet you would like to see that!!!
If I had one word to describe you Rick, it would be Powerful. All senses of the word describe you. A physical specimen. Strong and vibrant on the outside and on the inside you can be compared to only superman. Deep rooted strength in Jesus Christ. Stong devotion to your church and family. What a testimony. With those things in mind, I send you my prayers. I send you my strength, and I send my love to you and your family. If I could be by your side right now, I would tell you two things. #1 Bow up big man, I have faith in you. You never let me down because you never knew how to quit on the baseball field. Don't you quit on me now.
#2 and most important,
I would pray for you and here is the prayer.
Great Healer, hear my voice. Your child is in need. His soul is strong but the temple is weak. Send Your strength to his body, send Your love to his family and by Your Ultimate Grace, heal this Man of God and Heal his family. I claim victory in the name of Jesus Christ. My Master, my Redeemer and My Savior. Thy Will Be Done Thank you Jesus for your blessing today and for the ones yet to come. A Men

As I sat at my computer at work today checking Rick's website for updates and saying prayers, I am reminded of a song (one of my favorites) that Ricky, Candice and Haley would sing:
He leadeth me, He leadeth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
A faithful follower I will be
for by His hand He leadeth me.
God has Rick by the hand because Rick IS a faithful follower and that is so comforting. God's annointing has always been on Rick, Candice and Haley's music, anyone that ever heard them sing could feel it in their spirit. I just thank God for all of them and continue to pray and believe God for the miracle of Rick's healing that will truly glorify Him!

The audience was applauding, the kids were so excited at the job they had done and that we had made it through we were all doing a group hug and 2 of the kids stopped in the middle of it all to say "what's the latest on Mr. Rick?" and all of them stopped to hear what I had to say about the latest post on the website. One of the 4th graders asked me to e-mail him every day with the updates so he could keep praying.
So, Jeffrey and Shannon thanks so much for the updates each day. It was amazing to see God take a time where these kids could have been all wrapped up in their own success and teach them humility and to consider someone that they don't even know more important than themselves.
Rick, we're all still praying for you and believe and trust that God is EVERYTHING that He's said. He's omnipotent, omnipresent, and sovereign. Keep fighting and we'll keep praying.

My family and I pray for you every day. We know that God is using you in a very specail way. Even though what you're going through is crummy, you and your family are a great testament to God. I know this will change the lives of many, many more than you already have. We are all waiting on your miraculous recovery.

Dear Family-
Our thoughts are on you often and we use this computer as a reminder of how our prayers can make a difference in the lives of those who call on Your name. Father you are great and greatly to be praised. We pray only that you move in the lives of this family so strong that all those whom surround them know that You are God- the great physician, the healer, the forgiver, the Alpha and the Omega. You are there with them just as you have been throughout their lives and their ministries. Give them support, confidence in You and the ability to stay strong within You only.

Dear All,
I'm certainly glad to hear of any improvements Rick makes. I just wanted to let you know if Bro. Don or Sister Sarah hasn't already that Atmore ddidn't have much effects from the storm. We were able to have church Wednesday night (last night). The biggest problem we face now is gas shortages.
I prayed for y'all that no tornado would hit the hospital. Thanks be to God the hurricaine didn't produce anymore trouble for you than you are having to face right now. I'll try and remember to pray for that man and his wife's little girl that you mentioned. This is nothing but the mean old slewfoot! But he's defeated and I love your faith Candi!
