8/18/05 Afternoon Update

Friends,

Rick's platelet count is up to 50,000! The doctors will be doing a lumbar puncture at 3:30pm. This procedure will draw spinal fluid out of Rick's body and insert a small dose of chemotherapy. The hope is that this will enable them to determine if there is any infection or other condition in Rick's brain. It would appear that the doctors have also elected not to do a liver biopsy and just to go ahead with their gut instincts and give Rick his first full dose of chemotherapy tomorrow. Please pray for safety during the procedure and wisdom for the doctors.

We hope to send one more update this evening letting you know how things stand. Rick's family is encouraged and feeling very hopeful today as they wait on the Lord.

Please continue your prayers!
Jeffrey and Shannon

Rick,
I want to say how AMAZING God is! He always seems to come through in His time! I have been praying for you, as well as some of my friends. I will continue to pray for you and your family and hope that God's will for your life will soon reveal itself. Please keep having faith and putting all of your trust in the Lord, because I know for a fact that He will take care of you. It is extremely evident at the number of lives you have touched by letting God shine through you! What an amazing person you are, and I agree with a previous comment about you being beautiful inside and out! Take care and don't forget to keep smiling!
Love,

Hi Rick,
I am so happy to hear of your progress! The Lord is working His miracles in you. I know it may sound strange, but the Lord gave me a great peace about you last night around 11pm - I know He has passed that peace onto you and your family - cling to it as hard as you can - I pray also for your family as I know all to well what they are going through - their faith and your's will get all of you through this trying time.

My prayers are with you,
Mary Davis

After I'd spent my quiet time praying for a miracle this morning, I drove my children to school listening to one of our NPCC worship cds. One song that came on while we were driving was Rick himself singing about faith, EVEN WHEN we don't understand what's going on or we don't know what is going to happen. What a joy to know that our God is faithful and in control. God isn't finished blessing lives through you, Rick. Thank you, Jeff and Shannon, for being so faithful to keep those of us on our knees posted so we can pray and celebrate each step.

Genesis 50:19

...you intended to harm me (disease, sickness), BUT God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

Rick,

I'll bet you could have never imagined how many lives that you would impact when you went to serve at Mountain Lake. I am amazed to read the thoughts of so many people in so many places offering up prayers to our Heavenly Father. Through your ministry at MLC, you have had a profound on Forsyth County, BUT now you have had a profound impact on believers all over. You will probably never know this side of heaven how many people that one Godly man in Cumming, Georgia would impact. One of Sean's main purposes for MLC is to effect the county, the nation and the world and God has used you in a mighty way to accomplish this. Though my family has moved to Colorado, I still feel a part of MLC and am so thankful that I can follow your condition. Despite what you are going through, consider it a priviledge that God would allow your circumstances to reach so many.

To Rick's fiance and family, though I have never met you, I am praying for you God's comfort, strength and peace. I will be praying Is 42:16 I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths (Rick's condition) I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.

In his love,
Michelle Lane

Rick and the whole family remain in our prayers - for his complete
healing, and for daily strength for each of you. May God's loving
presence be especially evident to each of you.

We claim God's promises in Isaiah 43:1-5 for Rick:
...the LORD who created you says, "Do not be afraid - I will save you.
I have called you be name - you are mine. When you pass through
deep
waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you.
When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials
that come will not hurt you. For I am the LORD your God, the holy
God
of Israel, who saves you. .... you are precious to me... I love you
and give you honor. Do not be afraid - I am with you! ..."

Rick was placed on the prayer chain at St. Luke UMC in Pensacola,
FL
as soon as we heard about his illness. Suzanne and her family are
very precious to us and we look forward to meeting Rick when he is
well. God bless each of you. With Love, Tom & Linda Sherry
